If you’re in the mood for bright colors, busy design, nautical themes and enough foil to make even the most ardent conspiracy theorist think “that’s a bit much,” then the Neo:Wave Ultra might just be for you.
The Neo:Wave deck made its debut on Kickstarter yesterday and is available in two variants:
The first, the Neo:Wave Classic, will be printed by the United States Playing Cards company, complete with a traditional cut, white borders, Air-Cushion finish and standard tuck box. This version will eventually go on sale outside of Kickstarter.
The Kickstarter-exclusive “Ultra” variant (it’s short for “Ultraviolet”) is still going through its final stage of prototyping, but the core idea seems to be foil-printing, front-and-back, for everything but the dark blue background and white faces of the royal cards. The cards will be printed by Cartamundi using ink and cold foil on Premium True Linen B9 stock. The cards will be borderless and come in a premium tuck box made of linen paper and printed with, you guessed it, more foil. The Ultra deck will only go into production if more than 1350 units are ordered through Kickstarter and will never be reprinted.
At the time of writing the Neo:Wave deck Kickstarter has reached US$6,416 of its $18,352 goal with some 124 backers supporting the project. The cheapest tier that offers a CLASSIC deck is $9, while the cheapest tier that comes with an ULTRA variant is $16. Those prices do not include shipping. The Kickstarter will run until April 3rd.
