It’s been a rough week, readers. So how about you sit back, relax, and enjoy some curated magic videos courtesy of your old friends at Genii Online. 

Tommy Wind appeared on KSNV News Las Vegas to promote the new season of Masters of Illusion which, if I’m not mistaken, begins airing tonight. For the impatient among you, he starts performing tricks at the 1:45 mark.  

Jay Sankey dropped another tutorial, this one is for an awesome trick performed with a deck of cards and a firecracker, making it completely illegal in Canada. 

Update: I have just been informed that Jay Sankey is in fact Canadian himself, meaning he is a firebrand magician with no regard for the law. 

Hostel director, Eli Roth, has never been my cup of tea, but his upcoming adaption of children’s horror novel, The House with a Clock in its Walls looks like it might just change my mind. Jack Black is perfectly cast as a goofy magician, and judging by the trailer, the film seems to lay on the classic performance magic shtick really thick. It hits theatres September 21st. 

Fresh from his victory over gravity itself, Mat Franco has returned to our screens to teach magic and shill donuts. Elastic band tricks are a quick and easy way to fill out a close-up routine, or annoy your co-workers at the office. Learn them. 

We somehow managed to miss Piff the Magic Dragon auditioning for Game of Thrones last month. Sadly, a dragon his age will get nowhere in Hollywood without a scale lift. The green screen gag is absolute genius, by the by. 

Rob Lake made an appearance on America’s Got Talent. I thought the setup was a bit overwrought, but it went down well with the judges and the live audience. Best of luck in the competition, Rob!

Christian Wedoy also made a splash on AGT (it never stops, folks. It. Never. Stops). We’ve seen him perform with this set up before, albeit in a less dramatic setting, but it’s still amazing to see him and his lungs strut their stuff. 

Alex Geiser uploaded a slick, no-nonsense coin routine to YouTube.

An inside source has informed me that today is, as a matter of fact, Friday, which means it’s time for our weekly video roundup of all the magic videos released this week that didn’t warrant their own articles. 

Some magicians perform for crowds of screeching, ape-like creatures that constantly climb all over the place, demand attention, and try to make off with the props. We call these poor souls, “children’s magicians.” In the video above, Simon Pierro, better known as the iPad Magician, is performing for a far better class of audience at the Ubud Monkey Forest in Bali. 

Patrick Kun triples his winnings with this incredibly slick poker chip routine set to some very funky music. The bit where he seemingly pulls one from his watch face is like … You know that little picture of fire kids are always using on Twitter? It’s like five of those.

Michael Vincent of Vincent Academy performs Darwin Ortiz’s “Do As I Did.” It takes a little bit to get going, but it’s superb trick with an amazing payoff. 

The man in black requested a trick, and the gunslinger followed (the instructions). Unfortunately, despite learning how to twirl iron (or in this case, plastic) with the best of them, Mat Ricardo decided brandishing a gun on stage in his new tour wasn’t the best idea. 

Alex McAleer made the mistake of examining his earlier work in detail. You can actually see his slow descent into madness as he realises that his bad fashion choices will echo through the universe until the death of time itself. Also, the new Champions of Magic tour kicks off this weekend.  

Michael Kent performed a cute trick with a $10 bill to promote his show in Gahanna Ohio this evening. Pro tip: When he says, “look at the bottom of the bill,” don’t look at the bottom of the bill.

With the weekend fast approaching, it’s time to slip into relaxation mode with another batch of magic videos that don’t require any of that “reading” stuff I’ve heard so much about. Well, I mean there is some reading involved. You’re reading this right now. But you don’t have to. You could just skip this introduction and move straight on to the videos. It’s not like that would hurt my feelings or anything.

London-based magician, Magical Bones, performs a few tricks for YouTube collective, The Sidemen, including his signature back flip card catch. Bones will be performing his new show, Black Magic, at the Underbelly Festival next week.     

I’ve been keeping an eye on young Irish magician, Joel M, for a while now, as he performs his way through various retail outlets and burger joints. In his latest video, which is once again infuriatingly shot in a vertical aspect ratio, he dons a bath robe and slippers for some comfy hotel magic.  

In this third episode of Mutant Powers, magician Kyle Marlett gives another unsuspecting victim off-brand superpowers. This time, it’s the power of telekinesis, and the ability to avoid getting pooped on by birds.

In this short and sweet vid, Ace Cunnings turns a Bicycle Blue into a Bicycle Red. It’s a shame he couldn’t turn it into a card from a decent deck.

Magician and photographer, Alex Pandrea, takes a short break from teaching us how to shoot good card photos (and exploring an idyllic island paradise) to deliver a useful tutorial for a trick that’s both impressive and nearly self-working.
